Brother Lyons was installed as Master on December 14, 2003, in front of a large crowd. The installing team was Bro. Bryan K. Kincade PM as Installing Officer, Bro. James M. Cummings as Master of Ceremonies and Bro. D. N. "Brad" Bradway PM as Installing Chaplain. Bro. Lyons gave short remarks and presented outgoing Master Douglas Cairns PM with a very nice clock with the thanks of the Lodge.
At the stated meeting in January a new fund was started to raise money to recover the chairs in the Lodge room. Now that we had new carpet, the chairs looked bad, once again proving the point that one thing leads to another. The rest of January was filled with degree work that needed to be completed. At the stated meeting in February, our annual Widows Night was held and a nice presentation was made to the ladies. It was noted that the work performed in the preparation room had been completed and that the new stained glass windows in the Northeast corner of the Lodge room were in and a plaque was installed thanking Marge Machus for her talent and thanking Bro. Vic Muzny for his generosity in providing the funds for this project in loving memory of his wife Peggy. It was also announced that Bro. Chuck Machus was to receive the Hiram Award this year. The rest of the month was dedicated to degree work with our annual trip to Cambria Lodge on the 21st. This was the fifth year we had gone to Cambria Lodge to put on a degree, it was a great day and Bro. Rob Rohan was made a Master Mason.
In March, 20 members from Hornitos Lodge came to Clovis to gather up the traveling gavel, a project that has been going around to promote unity amongst the local lodges. To get the gavel, you have to have at least ten members, and show up at a stated meeting. You can then keep the gavel for a month, and then another lodge comes and takes it from you. This was started at Clovis Lodge a number of years back and we have only been able to get it back a couple of times in all of those years. As a matter of fact, I can't remember seeing it since they came and got it. I wonder where it is now?
April is always a busy month at Clovis Lodge and this April was no exception. With degree work coming in steady and the other outside activities of the lodge such as the Cowboy Dinner and Rodeo month, it was swamped. Once you make it through April at Clovis Lodge, you feel as if the year is almost over. In May Bro. Neil Whitman PM received his 50 year pin and new Masonic clocks were displayed for sell. All of the proceeds from the clocks went directly into the widows fund. Also in May was the annual Past Masters night at Clovis Lodge, we had a great steak dinner and Bro. Charles E. Willer visited from Wayne, New Jersey.
In June, Bro. Richard C. Matthews PM received his 50 Year pin before the stated meeting. It was announced by the management board that new illuminated exit signs were going to be needed throughout the building as mandated by the Clovis Fire Department. It was also decided by motion and vote to raise funds for the recovering of the chairs before we had them recovered so a strain would not be put on our finances.
Over the summer new fire signs were installed and various small projects around the lodge were accomplished. We had to come back early from being dark over the summer because degree work was backing up. Really, it was a nice break from the hectic pace that we had been keeping up with.
In September, Bro's. Allen N. Monroe and Douglas N. Cairns Pm received their 50 years pins before the stated meeting. Declarations to raise the dues and to move the stated meeting time to 7:00 Pm were introduced and were to be voted upon at a future stated meeting. October brought even more degrees and the new officers were taking their respective places in order to practice their new stations before the upcoming installation.
In November there was the annual election of officers and Bro. Glenn Stewart was elected to the office or Master for the ensuing Masonic year. Also there was voting on the above mentioned dues increase and meeting time change. After some discussion both passed and were voted into existence. There was also a report that with the assistance of Clovis Lodge, the Masonic Family Consortium had performed over 4300 Child ID's on children attending the fair. Also in November we had a first degree for Mr. B. Lee, whose grandfather, Bro. Richard Dudney, was in attendance and made several comments about his grandsons decision to become a Mason.
December brought us Roll Call Dinner and there was an extinguishing of candles after each fallen members name had been read from the roll. It was also noted that Bro. J. C. Butcher was in the hospital following a stroke. At the stated meeting it was announced that we had received donations for the bike fund and the chair fund in amounts of one thousand and fifteen hundred dollars respectively. A chair fund dinner and auction was announced for January 22, 2005. The new years budget was also read and approved.
Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. James E. Anderson, Milton M. Avakian, Wilbur Smith Beasley, Charles Allen Burdue, Carmin Antonio Capilato PM, Rudolph Duane Gestri, John H. Koehler, George Allen Levy, Richard Corwin Matthews PM, Fred Elner McPherson Jr., Fred John Meurer, Verne Oliver Miller, Harry Hilliard Torongo and maurice J. Johnson PM.
